Hydropolitical Vulnerability River Basin Organizations
International cooperation over shared water resources can ultimately lead to integrated economic and environmental sustainable development. This cooperation in turn strengthens institutional capacity in the region and reduces hydropolitical vulnerability. River Basin Organizations (RBO's) have a pivotal role in promoting and developing frameworks for equitable sharing of water resources. RBO's help to generate public awareness, political openness, and disseminate information and provide oversight for allocation of water. There is a need to strength RBO's planning and implementation capabilities, as well as functional capacity for funding operational costs and data collection. The continued expansion and networking of RBO's will lead to stronger regional institutional capacity that can help promote cooperation and prevent conflict over shared water resources.
